The relationship between the participant and the judge/team is the magic that makes
treatment court work. How can all team members make their interactions with participants
truly engaging? Our courtrooms are classrooms that can provide valuable learning

in court or providing daily services. What factors impede effective communication? How can we
improve? This presenter will explore research-based, practical strategies to identify and address
common barriers such as trauma, motivation, and cultural differences. Attendees will view a
